Lolaisms
- While I pruned the mock oranges yesterday Lola took the disgarded flowers and made a “cafe”, when I said, “bouquet?” she ran over to Tim and said “look at my boucafe!”
- Lola and I were watching a bumblebee work his way from blueberry plant to blueberry plant & Lola said “he’s polishing” (pollinating)
- We were grocery shopping & she asked if we could buy some cashews, I said yes but we can’t take them to school because Kaz (her friend) is allergic. When we got home she asked for some and then said “Kaz can’t eat these because he’s electric”
- In more morbid news, Lola has been asking Tim & I a lot about death. “Do kitties die?”, “will I die?” etc. On the way to school today, she tells Tim “we all die & then we’re born into new bodies and live in different houses” – while we recognize death is a curious concept for children – I didn’t expect to be having reincarnation discussions with her this early, maybe she was born a Buddhist.

Reading to the “babies”
Lola started gymnastics three weeks ago – we go every Saturday morning for an hour. I spend close to half the class trying to work my way out of the gym but she’s getting more comfortable each week.
Baby Registry
I’ve been asked by a few family members if I’m having a baby shower or have a gift registry. The answers are, I’m not & I do! There are a few practical items we need like BPA free bottle accessories and summer appropriate swaddle blankets etc.
No pressure of course but if you are interested.

Let me start by saying, two Bassett Hounds (Lola calls them Basket Hounds) moved into Lola’s school about four months ago. Sam is an 11 year old male & Lucy is a very hyper 2 year old female. Lola & Sam bonded almost immediately & over the last few months we’ve been given reports of her spending good portions of her day sitting and talking to him and protecting him from the younger children.
Last Friday afternoon one of Lola’s classmates started climbing on the outdoor coat rack. Lola sized up the situation and realizing the coat rack was going to fall on Sam, threw her body over him to make “a tent”. Having accurately predicted the fall path of the coat rack she took a blow to the back, still evident five days later with a good sized scab. Of course she cried & when Teri (the owner) came over to comfort her she said “I saved Sam!”. Lola’s heroic act has definately given her cause to puff up her chest, according to her teachers – that type of selflessness is very uncommon in children. Of course she’s been compensating by acting like a maniac all week but without a doubt, she has a heart of gold.

A month ago we took a trip up north to visit the Seattle grandparents, during our stay we went to the Seattle Aquarium with Grandma Helen. Here are some photos I nearly lost in the shuffle.
